Dear CMP Colleagues,

These are indeed unique times, affecting each of us in different ways as we deal with uncertainty and the stress on our families and friends. But times of crisis can also nudge us to look for opportunity. Every day we hear of people showing resilience by their actions and support to one another during the COVID-19 crisis. With the rise in demand for remote learning, we believe strongly that together great teachers and families can think of ways to help our students continue to explore and engage in mathematics.

The CMP team at Michigan State University has been brainstorming ideas that might help support you in your endeavors to continue the learning process for students. Each state and district has unique needs, which makes it difficult to provide any one treatment. However, we thought that this might be a good time to pull out some of the CMP activities that students could do at home with their families; activities that need minimal classroom collaboration and support, but ones that promote student learning and engagement with mathematics. So, we are creating a new section on our website that will provide some suggestions such as CMP games, projects, etc. that you can send to your homebound students and families. Perhaps our suggestions combined with your creativity can keep mathematics learning moving forward for our students.

Please send us ideas or suggestions for how we can continue to build this support at connectedmath@msu.edu.

Meanwhile take care of yourself and family.
